The Book Art Project
The Book Art Project initiated by Paul Johnson and based at the Manchester Metropolitan University, 1987 -1997, was funded by the Crafts Council of Great Britain and the Gulbenkian Foundation. The project aimed to encourage and advance writing and visual communication skills thought the book arts and at all levels of education by providing courses, talks and publications for teachers and workshops for children.
In 1997 Paul Johnson transferred the Book Art Project to the private sector where it continues to provide courses, workshops and publications and extends to the general public (some workshops are run from his home- based studio) and embrace a wide range of structures such as movable and sculptural books and how to make you own limited editions.
